Cast vs Extruded Acrylic: What UAE Buyers Should Know

All acrylic sheet is PMMA, but how it is made splits it into two grades that behave very differently in fabrication and in the UAE climate.

How each is made

Cast acrylic is poured between glass plates and cured slowly, giving a harder, more stable sheet with better optical quality. Extruded acrylic is squeezed through rollers continuously, which is cheaper and gives tighter thickness tolerance but a softer, more stressed material.

Laser cutting and engraving

Cast laser-cuts with a bright flame-polished edge and engraves frosty white, which is why signage letters, awards and premium displays specify it. Extruded edges cut slightly melted and engrave clear, harder to read.

Strength and sun

Cast resists crazing, solvents and UV better, an advantage that matters outdoors in the Gulf. Extruded is more prone to cracking around bonded joints and yellows sooner in cheap grades.

Where extruded wins

Extruded costs less, comes in very consistent thickness, and thermoforms at slightly lower temperatures. For hidden glazing, protective covers and high-volume vac-forming it is a sensible saving.

The verdict

Specify cast for anything visible, branded, bonded or outdoors. Use extruded where cost rules and the sheet is hidden or short-life. If a low quote seems too good, ask which grade it is based on.
