Extruded acrylic is the workhorse sheet of the UAE signage and glazing trade: cheaper than cast, dead-consistent in thickness and always in stock. Here is when it is the right buy and how to source it well.

Extruded sheet costs roughly 20 to 30 percent less than cast, holds very tight thickness tolerance, and thermoforms at lower temperatures. For hidden glazing, protective covers, light diffusers, vacuum forming and high-volume budget signage it is the sensible specification.
Extruded scratches and crazes more easily, yellows sooner in cheap grades under Gulf sun, laser-cuts with a slightly melted edge and bonds less cleanly at joints. Anything customer-facing, outdoors or diamond-polished should be cast instead. An honest supplier will tell you which your job needs.
Extruded sheet is stocked in 1220 x 2440 mm from 1.5 to 12 mm, in clear, opal and popular colours. Because it is produced continuously, batch-to-batch consistency is excellent and availability is rarely a problem in Dubai and Sharjah.
Confirm the sheet is genuinely extruded acrylic and not polystyrene or PET sold as budget acrylic, a common substitution at the cheapest end of the market. Ask for the material datasheet, check both faces are masked, and test a corner with a laser or solvent if in doubt.

Extruded typically runs 20 to 30 percent cheaper than cast at the same thickness. The saving is real for hidden or short-life work, but cast repays the difference on anything visible, bonded or outdoors.
Yes, though the edge finishes slightly softer than cast and fine engraving reads clear rather than frosted white. For crisp polished edges and white engraving, choose cast sheet.
