People decide where to walk when the lift opens. A directory at that point, floor, suite, arrow, in a typeface they can read from three metres, does more than twenty clever door plates. We cut directories in 6 to 10mm acrylic, often with interchangeable name plates, because teams move. A directory you have to remake every time a firm changes suite is not a directory. It is a cost.
Hospitals and polyclinics need the same system with different manners. Larger type. Higher contrast. Room numbers that match the appointment SMS. Sanitisable faces, which acrylic is. No sharp corners at gurney height. We have replaced pretty signage that nurses hated because it could not be wiped and the numbers were too small from a wheelchair. Pretty is not the brief. Findable is.
Banks, family offices, and some government floors want the brand to be exact and the information to be changeable. Paint-matched plates, engraved names rather than printed ones if the brand book says so, and a way to swap a name without calling a contractor every time someone is promoted. We hold spare blanks. That sounds dull. It is the difference between a floor that stays finished and a floor with paper in a plastic sleeve.
The reception logo, the directory, the meeting-room names, the statutory signs. If those four come from four suppliers, they will not match, even if everyone used 'white acrylic'. White is not a colour, it is a range. Cut the system in one batch, from one sheet lot, with one edge finish. Additions later from the same CAD will sit next to the originals without a shade jump.
Door plates are tens to a couple of hundred each. A lift-lobby directory is a few hundred to a couple of thousand depending on size and whether names are interchangeable. A full floor system for a mid-size office is usually a small line on a fit-out budget. The expensive version is replacing it in month four because the names were printed on vinyl and half the team has moved.
